Mr. Pradeep was here to share his rich experience on the theme of Emerging Trends in Rural India. Given the situation of deflation in most developed countries, the potential for success lies in fuelling of domestic growth, in which respect, India is in the sweetest spot in the world, BRICS included. He unveiled that several multinational and Indian corporate are exploring the hidden potential of Indian rural sector, project Shakti of HUL being one of them. Targeting rural needs requires an in-depth understanding of the sector and an appropriate business model, which most companies are still coming to terms with.

Topic : Perpectives about the media industry

Mr. Ashok visited the campus on a day when the rain gods were “making waves” in the nation’s capital. Uniquely, he shared perspectives about the challenges faced by the media industry from both the consumer’s and marketer’s point of view. Media has been one of the fastest growing themes in the countries, with a growth rate of 19% even in the toughest of times, and been attracting a lot of FDI. The industry has established itself as an independent body, free from political interference; however it is facing an acute shortage of quality manpower.

Mr. Dhruba alked about the public private partnership in infrastructure models in India. He also stressed the need for the same in other growth engines of the economy like health and education. However, the problem lies in the lack of demonstration of tangible benefits for all stakeholders involved.

Dr. Mehta dwelled on the future of healthcare and emphasized the role of genomics towards the same, saying that a one-size-fits-all drug could make way for drugs customized according to an individual’s genetic makeup, as the science of genomics enters its ‘plateau of productivity’.

Topic : Paradigm shift through eGovernance in India

The talk revolved around the various eGovernance initiatives being taken up nowadays. He discussed that IT penetration is increasing in todays world and it is becoming imperative that we go for such initiatives to cater to the huge population. Some of the examples cited were the Indian railways, online filing of income tax etc.

Topic :  Emerging Trends in IT outsourcing / Next generation offshoring

Mr. Mandal, an IIM Calcutta alumnus, shared his rich experience in IT services sector with the students and talked at length about emerging trends in IT outsourcing. While maintaining that cost is an important factor for Indian outsourcing companies, he stressed that it is no longer a differentiator and IT outsourcing companies need to offer a strong value to the customer in this highly competitive sector. He also highlighted the need to focus on domestic IT sector as IT spending in India is growing at a fast rate.
